Speak LIGHT and LIFE
I unpacked Psalm 78 in the wee hours of the morning on our drive to the lake house. Wow, I was reminded that there is nothing new under the sun…and there is always a cycle from generation to generation.
In vs. 5-9, we see God call out and command the current generation to step up, take action, and tell the NEXT generation about Him.
He wanted them to not only love God, but to set their HOPE in Him, to remember + recall His works, and keep His commands.
He tells those currently walking through the trenches to train those coming behind them to steer clear of the way the former generation lived. Rebellious, not steadfast, and spirits that were not faithful to the one who gave them everything they needed.
This sounds all too familiar!! Are you tracking with me?? However, we must fight the temptation to point the finger at generations before us that traded their position of shepherding for a place of convenience and gave up church to appease cravings of the heart. Why fight the blame game? Because our generation can easily fall into the same pit, and we have our own idols we are constantly grappling with. The traps of temptation are always one choice away. And our generation flirts with the lines of pride + arrogance all too often.
So instead, we must rise to the occasion and tell about the goodness, the mystery, and the faithfulness of God. We must cling to Jesus and His love which sparks an indestructible joy. I pray we fight the urge to let the pendulum swing too far back in the other direction. While there is no place for passivity in our walk with the Lord, legalism is just as lethal.
Keep the faith, stay steadfast in love, and be the 💡LIGHT💡 where God has planted you!
How to speak LIGHT and LIFE:
1) Share what God has done in your life - your testimony.
2) Share how God's Word has changed your life.
3) Invite someone to join you at church or at your small group.
4) Pray Matthew 5:14-16 over your life!
He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments; and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God. Psalm 78:5-8
